NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute is an eleven storey building located in the quiet and serene surroundings of Seawoods, adjacent to one of Navi Mumbai's prized possessions, ‘The Jewel of Navi Mumbai', which is essentially the largest workout track in the city built around a lake. The NeuroGen BSI Facility is also flanked by a part of the Arabian Sea which can be marveled at from the higher floors of the Institute. It is located just off the famous Palm Beach Road, next to India's largest railway station complex "The Seawoods Grand Central Station. It is easily accessible by road and local train service and close to International hotels such as Four Points by Sheraton, IBIS, Tunga, and large shopping complexes which include most of the Indian and international clothing and cosmetic brands, such as Sephora, M.A.C., Calvin Klein, Levi's, etc.alongside Starbucks, McDonald's and KFC, etc.

NeuroGen Brain & Spine Institute has been conceptualised to help patients with incurable neurological disorders such as autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual disability, muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injury, head injury, stroke, etc. We use a multidisciplinary approach to relieve symptoms and improve the quality of life of such patients.

NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute has been a pioneer for Regenerative Medicine in incurable neurological disorders. The use of a holistic and comprehensive approach to treat patients is based on a combination of Regenerative Medicine and Neuro Rehabilitation. The treatment includes extraction of adult autologous bone marrow-derived cells from the patient's own bone marrow. This is the safest and a most feasible method of extracting these bone marrow-derived cells. The subsequent treatment protocol is tailored as per the unique needs and requirements of the patient.

Treatment

At NeuroGen we use a combination of regenerative medicine and neurorehabilitation. This unique protocol followed at NeuroGen is termed as Neuroregenerative Rehabilitation Therapy (NRRT). The overall hospitalization period is typically for 6 days. Extended stay options for longer rehabilitation are also available.

The 6 days of hospitalization encapsulates of thorough Evaluations, Bone Marrow- derived Autologous cell Transplantation, Extensive Neurorehabilitation.

Evaluation - Neurological and functional assessment, to assess the severity and nature of the disease/disorder (as required): special imaging tests such as MRI Brain, Spine, Musculoskeletal System, PET CT Scan Brain, CT Scan Spine; Electrophysiological tests such as EEG, EMG, NCV, SSEP, VEP, BERA; other special tests if required. Clinical assessment by therapists is done.

Day
1

The regenerative medicine process using autologous (taken from the patient's own body) bone marrow derived bone marrow-derived cells consists broadly of 3 stages.

a. Procurement of the bone marrow via a bone marrow aspiration in the operating theatre under sterile conditions, under local anaesthesia or sedation, as deemed fit.

b. Separation and harvesting of the mononuclear cells in the laboratory.

c. Transplantation or delivery of the cells intrathecally (via a lumbar puncture) into the spinal fluid. In conditions with muscle or myopathic involvement, such as muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, etc. cells are also transplanted intramuscularly into specific motor points.

Post treatment care: Following the regenerative medicine, every patient is required to be lying down for the day with plenty of fluids intake, to prevent,"spinal headache" or nausea.

From the very next day, the patient is started on an intensive rehabilitation regime, which is customized to the patient's requirement.

2

Extensive Neurorehabilitation - including both adult or pediatric rehabilitation followed by discharge procedure.

Rehabilitation is an integrated approach which aims to transform a disabled person into a "differently abled person". To accomplish this, we have a team comprising of physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, aquatic therapist, applied behaviour analysis therapist, sensory integration, art-based therapist, play therapist, music therapist, special educator, electro therapist, yoga instructor, hand therapist, neuropsychologist, urologist, andrologist, and neuro-physician.
