The NeuroGen Team

NeuroGen Brain & Spine Institute commenced on 17th December 2008 in the basement of Surana Sethia Hospital, Chembur. We shifted to Seawoods in our own established facility on 31st March 2014. From treating around 150 patients in the initial year we have steadily reached a point to where we treat approximately 250 patients in a month. We have not only expanded from a small facility to an 11 storey building, in a beautiful, homely, locality, but also grown in terms of manpower and resources.

We began as a team of 6 professionals in the year 2008 but have now expanded to a larger family consisting of almost 200 inhouse and outsourced employees. The entire set up of the hospital has been designed to be patient centric.

Core Team Clinical Specialists Administration Operations & IT Team

Physiotherapy Department

The Physiotherapy Department of NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute caters to patients with neurological disorders. The Adult Physiotherapy Department is segregated in two units viz. Adult Physiotherapy Unit and Spinal Cord Injury Walking Track Unit. Adult Physiotherapy Unit helps the patients and their family members to cope with the condition; and enable them to live and work as normally as possible. The conditions which the team commonly address are Muscular Dystrophy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke, Cerebellar Ataxia, Sensory Motor Neuropathy, Multi System Atrophy, and Motor Neuron Disease. Depending on the patients' need, the rehabilitation protocol includes Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Techniques, Strengthening exercises for weak muscles, Suspension Therapy, Stretching of the Deformities, Bed Mobility Training, Balance Training, Gait Training, Endurance Training, Coordination Exercises.

The Paediatric physiotherapy department focuses on working in partnership with the child, parents/caregivers to maximize a child's physical abilities and independency in order to enable the child to reach their full potential by aiming to prevent or limit contractures and deformity, and thereby improve quality of life. The team provides assessment and treatment for children aged 0-18 years presenting with a range of conditions from mild developmental delay to cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disorders, ataxia, post traumatic head injury, autism, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disability, etc.

Occupational Therapy Department

The Occupational therapy department works towards providing 'Functional Independence' of patients. Occupational therapy can greatly impact a patient's life. Occupational therapists work with patients ranging in age from infancy to adulthood. The primary aim is to enable patients to attain the maximum degree of independence in their activities of daily living. It helps to build upon their levels of confidence and self-esteem. The Occupational therapists at NeuroGen Brain & Spine Institute are trained to address sensory-processing issues and help equip parents/caretakers to successfully manage their patient's behavioral struggles. They work alongside parents, neurologists, pediatricians, physiotherapists, psychologists, speech therapists, behavioral therapists and nutritionists to provide the necessary education to enhance smooth communication and healthy lifestyles in all children and adults.

Autism Child Development Center

Autism Child Development Centre is successfully catering its services since the last several years. Built insider the NeuroGen facility, the Autism Child Development Center was established to provide maximum therapeutic intervention through a multidisciplinary approach. The team works as a combined, high quality rehabilitation team for every child with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The services offered by the Autism Child Development Center are Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Special Education, Remedial Teaching, Speech & Language Intervention, Behaviour Modification along with all kind of psychological intervention including Counselling, Behaviour Training, Parents Training, Cognitive Improvement Training.

Psychology Department

The Department of Psychology in NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute is one of the most essential departments among the Neurorehabilitation team. The entire team looks after the mental health of the patients and employees. It offers a wide range of mental health services for paediatrics, adults as well as geriatric patients with neurological impairments. The team of Psychology includes various Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, ABA therapist, Art Based Therapist, and psychologists specializing in paediatric and adult psychological disorders as well. The entire team offers a wide range of services such as conducting various psychological tests, individual counselling and psychotherapy with adults, counselling for children, marriage counselling, family counselling, applied behaviour analysis therapy, art based therapy, and motivational workshops. The aim of the team is to cater psychological well being of the patients, help them to understand themselves better and address their emotional difficulties in a more adaptive way.

Speech Therapy Department

The Department of Speech Therapy at NeuroGen works tirelessly with both, pediatric as well as geriatric patients. The team aims at training the patients to enable them for better speech and swallowing and works towards matching the needs and expectations of the parents/caretakers of children as well as adults visiting NeuroGen. The team uses standardized language tests (REELS, 3D LAT, Reynells scale for Attention and Speech Intelligibility Rating scale) for identification of patient's exact Language Age and assessment of speech and language skills.

Aquatic Therapy Department

Aquatic Therapy Department in NeuroGen BSI was the first indoor heated aquatic therapy pool in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to be inaugurated on 16th November 2015. The department provides services for patients with various neurological, musculoskeletal and cardiovascular disorders. Patients who find difficulty doing rehabilitation in land, find it comparatively easier and comfortable to do it in water. Since its inauguration, the department has significantly treated over 1000 patients and trained students from various colleges in Mumbai and Pune.

Operation Theatre Department

The heart & soul of the hospital, the Operation Theatre is a total team of 25 members. Catering to the Hospital's specialization, incurable neurological disorders, majorly paediatric-oriented, the Operation Theatre staff is well trained. The operation theater is well equipped with latest technology.

Cell Laboratory Department

The Cell Laboratory is the epicentre of NeuroGen BSI. It is a state-of-the-art facility with latest equipment at par with international standards. The laboratory is GMP and GLP certified.

Diet and Nutrition Department

The Diet and Nutrition Department has worked on many strategies to ensure patient satisfaction.

NeuroGen's cafeteria provides an array of cuisines from all over the world, as it sees a regular influx of International patients and families. The Diet and Nutrition department at NeuroGen also contributes to research and development by incorporating various special diets for patients. Nutritional screening and intervention for patients is done before treatment.

Research & Development Department

The Research department has been one of the strongest pillars of NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute since its inception. Every year the hard working research professional analyse and study the scientific data to draw out statistical, systematic benefits of cellular therapy in various neurological disorders that we treat. In the year 2017 the Institutional Ethics Committee of NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute, was registered successfully with Drug Controller General of India (DCGI). NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute is now participating in 3 controlled clinical trials to assess the efficacy of diverse types of cells. Two of these trials focus on patients with spinal cord injury; one being an international multicenter trial and the other trial has been funded by Morton Cure Paralysis Fund (USA). The third trial will be conducted on children suffering from autism.

Resident Medical Officers Department

The Resident Medical Officers Department provides round the clock, excellent care and supervision to all the patients, and oversee the medications and therapies administered to the patients in coordination with our senior consultants. They are medical practitioners who are essentially the ever accessible bridge between the patients and the senior consultants and are trained in handling emergency situations and taking the appropriate steps, which are safe, effective and comforting during and after regenerative medicine.

They ensure that every patient and/or caretaker who is admitted or scheduled to be admitted in the hospital, is experienced and guided appropriately about the treatment and of any precautions that need to be considered. The team works tirelessly in following up with the patients and coordinating with the requisite departments even after discharge for their postoperative medical queries.

Nursing Department

A big part of making the patients feel at home from all over the world, can be attributed to our Nursing Staff. The onus of coordinating across various departments to ensure a smooth patient experience falls on their shoulders, right from the time of admission till the process of discharge.
